The older I get, the more I enjoy watching sunsets. Yet, if we peel back the layers of reality, the Sun doesn't actually set. It doesn't really do anything at all. We all know this, yet we still refer to it in a way that insinuates it does.

You see, the terms "sunrise" and "sunset" are our inventions, reflecting our human viewpoint. In reality, our Earth is spinning, while the Sun sits in its place in space and burns. Yet tonight, from my little vantage point in the universe, the Sun appears to gradually lay down and say goodnight as it slowly fades behind the Rocky Mountains. Yet tonight, I am reflecting on another summer "sunset."

Yet, despite my knowledge, I choose to stick with what has always been. I'll keep using "sunset" because that is my human perspective. Sometimes, that's all we have to go by, our perspective. This is not one of those, but this is the case in many mysteries in life.

It's about the story we tell ourselves, making sense of what we do not understand. To me, sunsets are more than just the Earth spinning around in space around our Sun; they are a humble nod to my human condition and understanding, which is limited in many ways to my little perspective. They remind me not to dissect every little thing and just sit back and enjoy the beauty of many of life's mysteries.
